Riftbound Legacy (set 6)
Legacy is the biggest announced Riftbound set to date, at 346 cards including 93 Showcase cards. Riot's tagline, "Bear the Banner. Forge Your Legacy.", points to a region-focused design, built around the factions of Runeterra. With a release on January 29, 2027, expect previews to start in early January and a Pre-Rift window in the week before release, following the pattern of earlier sets.
Proving Grounds, 2nd Edition
A refreshed learn-to-play box arrives in February 2027. The original Proving Grounds, released with Origins, included four starter decks, champion figures, game boards and oversized battlefields. Riot hasn't detailed the 2nd Edition contents in full. Watch for the official announcement. Our Riftbound starter deck guide covers today's options.
Riftbound The Reckoning (set 7)
The Reckoning releases April 30, 2027, with 264 cards including 67 Showcase. Its tagline is "Awaken the Ancients," and Riot describes it as centred on big champions.
Sets 8 and 9
Riot has confirmed a Bandle City-themed set for Q3 2027 and teased a ninth set for Q4 2027. Names, codes and card counts haven't been announced yet.
Organized play changes in 2027
The competitive structure changes significantly in 2027:
- Summoner Skirmish retires after Radiance and is replaced by the Challenge Series at curated stores.
- Regional Qualifiers become Regionals, with three or four per set.
- Continental Championships arrive: four global three-day events.
- Nexus Nights (weekly) and Nexus Cups (monthly) continue.
Unused Skirmish byes stay valid throughout 2027. Full details in our Riftbound tournaments guide.
What a Riftbound release cycle looks like
If Legacy follows the pattern Riot used for Radiance, here's the sequence to expect:
| Stage | Radiance (2026) | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Preview season begins | September 25, about four weeks before release | Cards are revealed daily by Riot and preview partners |
| Official card gallery updates | Daily at 5 p.m. Pacific during previews | The reliable source for card text and rarities |
| Pre-Rift window | October 16–22, the week before release | Play the new set early at participating stores |
| Wide release | October 23 | Sealed product and singles become widely available |
Applied to a January 29 release, that would put Legacy previews in early January and Pre-Rift events in the week of January 22. Those dates are our projection, not an announcement. We'll replace them with Riot's official schedule when it's published.
Should you pre-order 2027 Riftbound products?
Pre-ordering makes sense for sealed products you know you want, especially special collections that may sell through. For singles, there's less reason to rush: prices for most new cards are highest in the first weeks after release and often settle as more product is opened. Our Riftbound singles vs. booster boxes guide explains how to decide.
Will there be rotation in 2027?
As of October 2026, no Riftbound set has rotated out of Standard, and Riot hasn't announced a rotation date. If and when rotation is announced, we'll cover it here and in our guide to every Riftbound set in order.
How to prepare for Legacy
- Learn the current format. Legacy cards will join a pool that includes every set from Origins to Radiance. Our Radiance guide covers the newest set.
- Keep your staples. With no rotation, cards that see play now are likely to stay relevant.
- Watch the ban list. Riot has tended to announce bans around set releases. See the current Riftbound ban list.
- Plan your purchases. Prices for new singles are often highest just after release. If you don't need a card on day one, it can pay to wait.
