Yu-Gi-Oh! Banlist October 2026: Every Change in the September 21 Forbidden & Limited List

Ultima Cards Yu-Gi-Oh! guide cover: Banlist Oct 2026

The current Yu-Gi-Oh! banlist for the TCG, officially the Forbidden & Limited List, took effect on September 21, 2026. It forbids eight cards, adds new restrictions and frees nine cards to three copies. This page lists every change and the long-standing restrictions you're most likely to run into.

Last checked October 4, 2026, against Konami's official TCG list. Two of the unbanned cards, Mind Master and Elder Entity Norden, don't become Unlimited until September 28, 2026.

How the Forbidden & Limited List works

  • Forbidden: can't be used in your Main, Extra or Side Deck.
  • Limited: maximum 1 copy across your Main, Extra and Side Deck combined.
  • Semi-Limited: maximum 2 copies across all three.
  • Unlimited: the normal maximum of 3 copies.

This list applies to the Advanced Format, the standard competitive format at Official Tournament Stores and premier events. The OCG in Asia and Master Duel have separate lists. Genesys doesn't use this list at all: see our Yu-Gi-Oh! Genesys guide.

Newly Forbidden

Card Previous status
Archlord Kristya Unlimited
Dimension Shifter Limited
Kewl Tune Rotary Unlimited
Wind-Up Hunter Unlimited
Protectcode Talker Unlimited
Reprodocus Unlimited
Phantasmal Lord Ultimitl Bishbaalkin Unlimited
PSY-Framelord Omega Limited

Several of these are generic Extra Deck monsters (Protectcode Talker, Reprodocus, Phantasmal Lord Ultimitl Bishbaalkin and PSY-Framelord Omega), which tends to mean they were showing up across many decks rather than in just one. Dimension Shifter was a powerful going-second card, already Limited.

Newly Limited and Semi-Limited

Card New status
Elfnote Tinia Limited
Prohibited Power Patron Portal - Terminus Limited
Branded in High Spirits Semi-Limited

Set free: now Unlimited

Card Previous status
Mind Master Forbidden (Unlimited from September 28)
Elder Entity Norden Forbidden (Unlimited from September 28)
M-X-Saber Invoker Forbidden
Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity Forbidden
Mirage of Nightmare Forbidden
Metamorphosis Limited
Premature Burial Limited
Unchained Soul of Sharvara Semi-Limited
Purrely Delicious Memory Semi-Limited

Several of these are old cards returning after years on the list. M-X-Saber Invoker and Elder Entity Norden are generic Extra Deck options again, which can change how Xyz and Fusion decks build their Extra Decks. If you're picking up returning cards, check our Yu-Gi-Oh! singles.

Staples that remain restricted

Some long-standing restrictions are still in place and catch new players out:

Card Status
Pot of Greed Forbidden
Maxx "C" Forbidden
Harpie's Feather Storm Forbidden
Monster Reborn Limited
Harpie's Feather Duster Limited
Called by the Grave Limited
Pot of Prosperity Limited
Droll & Lock Bird Semi-Limited

Popular hand traps like Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Effect Veiler and Infinite Impermanence aren't on the list, so you can play three of each. See our hand traps guide.

What the list means for deck building

  • Check your Extra Deck. Four of the eight new Forbidden cards are Extra Deck monsters, so many Extra Decks need updating.
  • Look at the returning cards. Premature Burial and Metamorphosis are back at three. Decide whether they earn a slot.
  • Revisit your side deck. Dimension Shifter's ban changes the going-second options. Rebuild your Side Deck around what's still legal.

Our Yu-Gi-Oh! deck building guide covers Main, Extra and Side Deck construction.

When is the next Yu-Gi-Oh! banlist?

Konami doesn't publish a fixed schedule, but TCG lists have generally arrived a few times a year, often ahead of major events or new set releases. We'll update this page as soon as the next list is announced. Always check Konami's official Forbidden & Limited page before an event.

What happens to the value of banned cards?

Cards that are newly Forbidden usually lose play demand quickly, while freed cards often see demand spike. Collector demand for high-rarity printings, like a Quarter Century Secret Rare or a Starlight Rare, is driven more by the card's popularity and rarity than by its banlist status. If you have cards to move on, see our sell your collection page.
